Sustainable Camping- The New Glamping
Photo creds: Diaga Ellaby
“Summertime, and the livin is easy…” but the camping not always so much. It’s a pastime that’s such a part of this season you can almost smell the wood smoke and taste the marshmallows when the first day of summer arrives. Yet as romantic as guitar strumming, starry skies and lazy mornings at the riverbank may sound, the reality of it can be a challenge to your code of hygiene, environmental sustainability and your everyday sexy. Which is why we think glamping should be a concept, not just a destination, and with the right mix of products you can easily enjoy the romance of camping while remaining your best, environmentally conscious, sexy self.
Here are 9 products that will have you feeling fresh with ease and keep your impact low while bonding with nature:
Lone Facial Cleanser (NEW!)
Camping is no exception to cleaning your face daily. Our Lone Facial Cleanser is a unique spray on, wipe off cleanser that nourishes and hydrates your skin. It balances out skin with toning botanicals while it removes dirt, toxins and sweat without stripping key nutrients and natural oils, keeping your natural beauty intact. We recommend using it with a bamboo washcloth for best results.

Lone Perfecting Mist (NEW!)
When camping, sun and weather can be your best friends and sometimes your skin’s worst nightmare. You need hydration more than ever, and a low maintenance moisturizer can do that for you. Our Perfecting Mist doubles as a refresher and moisturizer that prevents breakouts and clears the complexion. It can be applied throughout the day without the need to touch your face with dirty camping hands. Use it as often as you want to keep a fresh glow through the weekend.

Lone Deodorant
However tempting it may be to go au natural when in nature, if you’re camping with friends, deodorant is the one item of hygiene you shouldn’t go without. Lone deodorant is a non-toxic deodorant designed to eliminate odor rather than cover it up. It works on just one application a day, so even though it’s natural you won’t need to worry that it will fail during your outdoor activities. Its active ingredient is Dead Sea salts (no baking soda), and it’s designed to condition and soothe the underarms in a healthy and effective way. Lone deodorant comes in citrus, mint, and unscented.

Acure Dry Shampoo
Latest research has shown that going a few days without washing your hair can actually improve the health of your strands. Another benefit of less shampooing goes to the environment because most shampoos contain chemicals that when washed down the drain, get into the water supply. One of the most common of these chemicals is Sodium Laureth Sulphate, which is mutagenic to animals. However the greasy look that can accompany this healthy camping ritual doesn’t leave most of us feeling very sexy, and that is where dry shampoo saves the day. Acure Dry Shampoo is our favorite. It’s easy to use and absorbs oil without water. Work the dry shampoo into your scalp and comb through to the ends. It’s as easy as that!

Beauty Counter Sunscreen Stick
When you’re camping, you’re prone to be out in the sun more than usual. The problem is that while sun protection is essential, ingredients in some sunscreens are potentially harmful. Research so far shows that zinc oxide may be the safest form of applied sunscreen so look for a high quality, broad spectrum ZO sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. The Beauty Counter Sunscreen Stick is a great option for your face, and they also have it in stick or lotion form for your body. It’s a zinc oxide formula that is fueled with organic ingredients such as coconut oil and acai fruit oil. It provides water-resistant sun protection while hydrating your skin. It also smells great so reapplying it throughout the day as needed is a pleasure more than a hassle.

Buzz Away Natural Insect Repellent
While mosquitos and ticks may be the last thing you want to think about while you’re packing for your trip, they are unfortunately a very real element of a camping weekend. Aside from the obvious irritation of the itchy red bumps they inflict, with Zika virus on the radar and plenty of other insect transmitted illness possibilities you want to stay as protected as possible from the little pests. Many insect repellents use less than desirable ingredients to ward off the bugs, but luckily there are a few good non-toxic, natural options that actually get the job done. Our favorite so far is the Buzz Away Extreme (Deet free) formula that offers to ward off mosquitos, black flies and ticks with one product. It comes in a spray or towelette form, and it’s available in eco-friendly packaging.

Portable Travel Mirror
When you’re out and about, a small compact mirror doesn’t always show you the whole picture. The Magic Mirror is a full-length portable travel mirror you can bring with you camping to make sure you look your best, even if your beauty routine has to be applied at a picnic table. There are many different mirror designs to choose from, and they’re all non-glass and multifunctional beauties that make traveling easy.

Water Resistant Mascara
When you’re going low maintenance and you want to play up your best features with minimal work, mascara is usually key. Out in the elements you need one that can hold up against sun, water and wind. Sadly, many waterproof mascaras contain toxic ingredients, so you will be as delighted as I am to find a non-toxic one that keeps your lashes on point and smudge-free so you can enjoy yourself without worrying about touchups. My favorite is Aquarian Gaze Water-Resistant Long Lash Mineral Mascara by Pacifica. Not only does it make your lashes look ridiculously long, it adds volume and nourishes them with coconut oil and other natural ingredients.

Travel Smart Thermacell Straightener
If you’re anything like me, camping (even glamping) turns your hair into frizz central. Opt for your favorite cordless straightener so you can smooth flyaways and tame your hair. The good thing is that a straightener can also be used to create beachy waves so if you’re more of a curling iron girl, it will still work in a pinch. I prefer the Travel Smart Thermacell Straightener because it’s easy to use, works great, and comes with a heat shield. Use it in combination with dry shampoo, and you have the basics for a great outdoor hair day.
